Default Removing WMP11...

So basically... Windows media player 11 is crap(surprise, surprise) and likes to interfere with the proper working and detection of my Creative ZEN. Since the obvious add/remove control panel does NOTHING in getting rid of this, i'd like to know if anyone knows of a way to go back to wmp9 or 10 so i can still have wmp for things that need it while also having my zen work properly.

It's supposed to have an uninstall in Add/Remove Programs. I've installed it a couple times, realized / remembered why I hate it so damn much, and uninstalled it through there. Each time it has let me revert back to WiMP 10.

Yea, that was the first thing i tried. It talks about rolling back on the window that pops up there, but when i tell it to go ahead and do it it does nothing despite claiming to have done it. WMP11 remains there, unchanged, no matter how many times i tell it to roll back... Hence why i kinda need an alternative method.

hmm, if you can ACTUALLY get rid of windows media player 11, i suggest deleting it from your program files in C:

then use this link

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...0/default.aspx you should be able to re-download 10 from there

Not sure which OS you are using - I'm assuming XP since Vista won't let you uninstall WMP11 at all.

There are several guides around about removing WMP11 but it doesn't look like any method works in every single case.

some problems might be

1: you can't rollback if you have a media device connected to your computer at the time.

2: If you deleted the uninstall file that was put on your system when you updated to WMP11 you will not be able to rollback (some system cleaners remove these uninstall files automatically)

(Also, I'm not sure how WMP automatic update works since I have mine turned off but is it possible that the player is updating itself? - kind of a long shot. Just a thought that popped into my head)

If you have not deleted the uninstall file here is a method some seem to get to work

"GOTO ->
C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallwmp11$\spuninst\spuninst.ex e

after the rollback is complete… a restart might be required… then afterwards…

C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallWMFDist11$\spuninst\spunins t.exe

again a restart might be needed…."

Unfortunately, many are also finding that a system restore to a point before the installation of WMP11 is necessary - others are having to completely reformat.

Zen should have software to handle everything you need. Try (re)installing that.

Thanks mork, that seemed to have worked in getting rid of it as 9 has returned. The only loss is that wmp videos no longer play in my browser. oh well, atleast now i might not(or i shouldn't) have to worry about wmp blocking all detection of my zen anymore.
